Once you have published your first book, you are on your way to becoming a recognised author in your field of interest, and we promise you will love that feeling of accomplishment.

The idea behind Ciconia Publishing is to make it affordable for writers and authors to publish their work under a real publishing house's logo and name, allowing you to move away from the stigma of being self-published. The big difference with Ciconia Publishing is that you uphold all the rights to your written work, also ensuring you maintain the sole decision making capacity related to all areas of your published book, but naturally still being supported by Ciconia Publishing when needed.

SELF-PUBLISHING HOUSE

Ciconia is first and foremost a publishing house for E-books! Our main aim is to allow writers and authors the opportunity to self-publish their books by utilising our services which includes publishing under Ciconia Publishing's logo and name. Our services are related to new ebook writers and established self-publishing authors who want to take their writing career to the next level and belong to an affordable publishing house.

To commence using Ciconia Publishing as your publishing house. We need to set up an agreement, and your book/s must be approved following our guidelines which outline material we will accept under our publishing brand. You will be forwarded a copy of this contract including the full Terms and Conditions when you get in touch initially. It is a straight forward process, rest assured, we will guide you through each and every step.

When we have an agreement, you will be granted permission to use Ciconia Publishing as your publishing house for approved books. You will be provided with copyright templates to be used inside your book as well as various check lists and a guide on how to promote your book.

EDITING YOUR BOOK

It is scary to get someone to edit your book...or is it? It really depends on what editing means to you - maybe you are worried about your entire book changing, or maybe you are afraid that you will be told your book is no good? Whatever your worries are, you have it wrong because this is not the job of an editor. Your editor will simply guide you in the right direction if they spot inconsistencies or things that are missing in your manuscript. Your book will remain largely the same but simply a better version. The worst mistake you can make as a writer is to ignore the importance of having your book edited.

In fact, editing a book is much harder than ‘simply writing your book initially’. Editing takes a lot of time, and an editor will typically read things two or three times before they move on. Most importantly they offer a pair of fresh eyes to look at your content, therefore, always engage a third party to be your editor. You have heard the term 'snow blind' which is what happens when we try to edit our own books!

The problem with doing our own editing is that we are too familiar with the content of our books. This means that our brain will have a tendency to skip ahead because it anticipates what is happening next. Also, you know the story line too well, which makes it easy to think that your reader knows what you are aiming at, despite the fact that you may not have explained it very well.

An editor will make valid suggestions but please remember that they are just recommendations! After all, you know your book best, and the editor's suggestions are simply that....suggestions. However, these nuggets do give you an indication of content that would benefit from being re-written so it makes more sense to the reader. Remember, the decision lies with you, and you can of course make the final amendments as you see fit.

Getting a price for your editing is essential, again to avoid unexpected costs. However, every project is different, and it is therefore not possible to list a guide price. Instead, Ciconia Publishing aims to deliver a written quote for your editing within 72 hours. You are under no obligation to continue with this service if the price is not agreeable to you.

PROOF READING YOUR BOOK

Surely you feel that proof reading is easy, and maybe not very important! Well, this couldn't be further from the truth. Proof reading is the last thing that is done before you are completely ready to release your book into the world. It is about putting the finishing touches to a piece of art. You really want to ensure that your work is presented as polished and as complete as possible.

During the proof reading process, we will ensure that all the last minute checks are carried out, has the formatting worked, does the final copy look OK, are there any small errors related to spelling mistakes or similar typos. Ciconia Publishing has a team of qualified people who just love to pick up on those little mistakes, and while they are at it, they will also double check your grammar, punctuation and similar essential areas to ensure that your book looks as professional as humanly possible.

Ciconia Publishing is an innovative concept for writers and authors who want to self-publish but who also would like the backing of a publishing house. We work with authors from all paths of life, we pride ourselves in supporting writers in realising their dream of publishing a book whether it is a cook book, a crime novel, a romance, a ‘how to’ book or the next big seller within the business world. There are no limits to the topics Ciconia Publishing would consider backing as long as your book is written in good spirit i.e. you have the best interest in mind for your reader. We will always provide honest feedback if your book does not comply with our ethos.

First, let’s discuss some of the tasks that a publishing house will typically undertake. A publishing house will help you with editing, proof reading, formatting, cover designs, distribution and marketing which could include book tours as an example. But as we all know it is difficult to be ‘discovered’ and signed with one of the big publishing houses. Therefore, you may decide to take matters into your own hands and resort to self-publishing. When you decide to self-publish the publishing house jobs are now down to you, and you, in effect, take on a very demanding and challenging role. Further, the main downside to being self-published is that there is still a lot of stigma around self-publishing when you are not backed by a publishing house.

This is where Ciconia Publishing comes into play. It allows you to remain self-published with two of the biggest bonuses being that, with Ciconia Publishing, you have full backing and you uphold all the rights and royalties to your written work. In this way, you are ensured to maintain the full rights over your published work, as well as being the main decision maker in all areas of your book.

Needless to say that there are several benefits to having the stamp of a publishing house behind your book. It provides a level of authority and sincerity to your project, while you also have the facility to outsource some of the tasks you do not enjoy with respect to publishing your book whether this is related to formatting or designing a book cover. After all, you need to focus on what you do best which is being a writer.
